Monogram Foods Purchasing American Foods Group, Creating 120 Jobs in Virginia

08/14/2009
Monogram Food Solutions LLC, a producer of processed meat products, will invest $3 million to expand production at a plant in Martinsville, Virginia, that is currently operated by American Foods Group LLC, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch. Tennessee-headquartered Monogram will purchase American Foods Group's meat snack division and create 120 new jobs at the Martinsville facility, nearly doubling the plant's work force. "The Martinsville production facility will be a good addition to our current production facilities located in Minnesota and Indiana," says Karl Schledwitz, Monogram's chair and CEO, in a statement from the Virginia governor's office. "Virginia was a great fit for the project and we look forward to success in the commonwealth." The Times Dispatch says unemployment in Martinsville was 21.6 percent in June, with the surrounding Henry County at 15.4 percent; Schledwitz told the Times Dispatch that the unemployment rate was a deciding factor in choosing the location, as the company expects to easily find skilled workers. The state is providing an incentives package that includes $400,000 in grants and training assistance.
