South Carolina Recycling Company and Coca-Cola Join for Expansion Project

09/14/2007
A partnership between the Coca-Cola Company and United Resource Recovery Corporation (URRC), a Spartanburg, South Carolina, recycling technology company, will produce the world's largest food-grade plastic bottle-to-bottle recycling plant. The $50 million facility will also be located in Spartanburg and is expected to create more than 100 jobs over the next five years, according to the S.C. Dept. of Commerce. URRC officials plan for construction of the plant to be completed by the end of 2008. At full operation, they expect the facility to produce approximately 100 million pounds of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic for reuse each year - the equivalent of producing nearly 2 billion 20-ounce Coca-Cola bottles. URRC and Coca-Cola have partnered in recycling plant investments for more than a decade.
