DC Machine Invests $5.3 Million To Expand Its Summerville, South Carolina, Manufacturing Campus

09/22/2015
DC Machine, an industrial design and machining center that manufactures close tolerance components, is expanding its production complex in Summerville, South Carolina. The $5.3 million investment is expected to create 17 new jobs in Dorchester County.

As part of its expansion, DC is constructing a 17,000-square foot addition to its existing Dorchester County facility, located at 202 Thorpe Road in Summerville. The expansion will allow the company to remain an industry leader in gun barrel manufacturing, and will support the growth of its continued diversification.

“DC Machine LLC is excited to announce this expansion and our new 38,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which will be unlike any other in the surrounding area. With our expanded capabilities, we hope to maintain a workforce of more than 70 employees, while producing high quality components for our customers locally and across the United States. As a firm that’s proud to hire locally, this expansion will do more than just have a positive impact on the local economy, it will help enrich employment opportunities in the Town of Summerville and the Tri-County area,” said DC Machine LLC Owner Brian Plaisance.

In 2004, DC Machine established its first facility, a 250-square-foot room with one computer numerical control machine. Since then, the company has grown tremendously. More than a decade later, DC operates more than 50 CNC machines and employs approximately 50 workers. DC Machine is one of the largest gun barrel manufacturers in the country, producing over 1500 gun barrels per day. DC Machine also caters to the automotive, aerospace, medical and military fields.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $50,000 Set Aside grant to Dorchester County to assist with the cost of real property improvements related to the project.

DC Machine is a great South Carolina company that has been doing business in our state for more than a decade, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this expansion and the 17 new jobs it will bring to Summerville. It’s always encouraging to see homegrown companies succeed in our state, and we look forward to watching DC Machine continue to find that success here for many years to come,” said Governor Nikki Haley.
