Volkswagen Moving to Virginia

09/06/2007
Volkswagen of America will relocate its U.S. corporate headquarters to Herndon, Virginia, from its current location in Auburn Hills, Michigan. According to the office of Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, a new 185,000-square-foot facility in the Woodland Park Business Park will also serve as headquarters to Audi of America, Audi Financial Services, Volkswagen Credit, and other affiliated operations. More than 400 jobs are expected to be created from the $100 million investment. Company officials plan to begin the move in April of 2008. Stefan Jacoby, Volkswagen of America's president and CEO, told the Washington Post that the company decided more than a year ago to move its headquarters to the East Coast because most of its customers are located there. Jacoby cited northern Virginia's high-quality schools and skilled work force as reasons for choosing the Herndon location.
