Chemical Company Investing $29 Million to Expand in St. Gabriel, Louisiana

01/23/2009
Taminco Higher Amines Inc., a producer of chemical products used in multiple industrial and agricultural operations, will invest $29 million to expand its facility in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, according to the Louisiana governor's office. The company will add 20 permanent jobs and retain 53 employees at the plant while creating 150 construction jobs with the project, which will include consolidation of two production units currently located in Michigan. "This expansion is a good fit for St. Gabriel because we already produce most of the raw materials needed for the new process units, and we are close to our customer base," says Mitch Corona, site manager at the Louisiana facility. "In addition, the St. Gabriel location is supported by a number of local technical schools, which provide a qualified pool of operators and technicians for continued growth." Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year, with full production planned by early next year. The company has been offered financial incentives from the state, including tax exemptions; exact figures were not released.
