Capacitor Manufacturer Expanding South Carolina Facility for Alternative Energy Component Production

KEMET, a manufacturer of capacitors for use in automotive and industrial machinery equipment, will expand its production facilities in Simpsonville, South Carolina, according to the South Carolina governor's office. The company plans to add 113 new jobs over the next three years as it manufactures a new capacitor for electric vehicles that will also be marketed to the solar, wind, and geothermal energy industries. KEMET recently received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to add the production lines to the plant. "This investment will allow us to meet growing demand from our customers in the U.S., especially in the electric drive vehicle industry," says Per-Olof Loof, the company's CEO and director. "Our Simpsonville facility has been an important part of our production capabilities over the years, and South Carolina has always provided KEMET with an excellent business environment and a highly skilled work force." The expansion is expected to be completed within nine months.
