Nationwide Insurance Investing $90 Million+ for New Corporate Campus in Texas

11/03/2009
Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company will construct a new corporate campus in San Antonio, Texas, at an estimated cost of $90 million, according to the San Antonio Express-News. The Ohio-headquartered company plans to create 838 new jobs at an average annual salary of $44,000 plus benefits, adding to the company's 900-plus jobs already in San Antonio. The Express-News says the company's total investment with equipment is expected to reach nearly $120 million, and that approximately 300,000 square feet of office space will be constructed. "Nationwide would like to express its gratitude to Mayor [Julian] Castro and [Bexar County Judge Nelson] Wolff," says John Raybuck, Nationwide's regional vice president, quoted by the Express-News. "As Nationwide grows and strives to provide superior customer service for our customers, the efforts of these and other state and local leaders, combined with the attractive work force in San Antonio, were key factors in our decision to choose San Antonio for expansion of our operations." The Express-News says the company was considering sites in North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Arkansas in addition to Texas. The state will provide incentives of $2.5 million; the city and county will provide $500,000 in cash incentives along with a city property tax abatement valued at $3.7 million. The company said it is not yet ready to begin hiring.
