Amazon Readies Fulfillment Centre in Alberta, Canada
12/18/2018
The facility will be developed on 58 acres of land within Border Business Park, a development at the centre of Alberta’s industrial hub. This will be Amazon’s second fulfillment centre in Alberta, according to ONE Properties and TD Greystone Asset Management, companies that reported the lease agreement.
Border Business Park has been developed over the last several years by TD Greystone in partnership with ONE Properties. The Park is situated on the border of the City of Edmonton and Leduc County, directly north of Nisku.
The Park offers the new Amazon facility exemplary access to a diverse range of amenities, public transit, major roadways, the Edmonton region and Alberta as a whole. The facility is scheduled for completion in early 2020.
“On behalf of our institutional clients, we are delighted that Amazon has chosen Border Business Park for its newest fulfillment centre in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region,” says Jeff Tripp, Managing Director, Real Estate Investments, TD Greystone Asset Management. “Border Business Park is an optimal choice to meet the needs of Amazon and we are honoured to work alongside a world-renowned company such as this.”
“We are excited about our new relationship with Amazon,” says Darren Durstling, President & CEO, ONE Properties. “With our development expertise, we look forward to delivering quality and uncompromising value to seamlessly execute Amazon’s newest venture.”
The project will employ approximately 700 workers over the term of the construction project. As well, the new facility will provide 600 new jobs. Associates will pick, pack and ship items to customers such as books, electronics, toys and more.
“Our ability to create over 600 good-paying jobs with great benefits is thanks to the network of support we’ve received and the skilled workforce in the region,” said Glenn Sommerville, Director of Amazon Operations in Canada. "We’re grateful for the welcome we’ve received from government and community leaders and excited by our growth in Alberta and ability to better serve our customers.”
