Bag Manufacturer to Start Up in South Carolina

02/12/2009
The Charleston Business Journal reports that American Synthetics is locating a facility in Berkeley County, S.C., where it will manufacture a fully recyclable poly-woven bag for pet food and lawn care products. Production is scheduled to begin early in the second quarter in an existing 40,000-square-foot industrial building in Crowfield Corporate Center. The company will initially hire 50 people and expects to add 200 workers and invest $25 million during the next five years. Managing partner Rom Reddy estimates that American Synthetics will produce 40 million to 45 million of the poly-woven bags during its first year of operation. The bags are made from a lightweight, durable material - similar in texture to reusable grocery bags - that keeps pests out and prevents spillage. They are 100% recyclable, including the sealants. The material for the bags will be imported from Turkey. Reddy also noted that the company's clean manufacturing process will produce no ground or air emissions.
