Whirlpool Investing $175 Million in Ohio Factory

02/24/2009
Appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation will invest $175 million at its existing manufacturing plant in Clyde, Ohio, and create up to 100 new jobs. The Toledo Blade reports that the company is making the investment to prepare the facility for the production of a new energy-efficient automatic washing machine, and that the investment will begin immediately. "The Clyde Division has had a long-standing reputation within Whirlpool for delivering on major projects," says Al Holaday, a company vice president, quoted in the Blade. "This investment is a reflection of the flexible, progressive, and lean efforts by the Clyde employees." A company spokesperson says the new jobs will be added next year. Whirlpool laid off 250 employees at the facility, which employs more than 2,500, three months ago.
