Barclays Opening New Facility, Creating 500 Jobs in Delaware
Area Development Online News Desk (02/26/2009)
Barclaycard US, the American credit card business of England-based Barclays PLC, will open a new customer contact center in Newark, Delaware, according to state economic development officials. The company is expected to create 500 new jobs over the next five years, 300 of them coming when the facility opens in early April. "Newark is an ideal fit for Barclaycard because of its proximity to the headquarters of our business in Wilmington and to high-quality educational institutions that provide a great source of employment candidates and education programs," says Joe Purzycki, Barclaycard US's chief operating officer. The News Journal of Wilmington reports that the new positions will pay between $35,000 and $100,000 annually, and that the governor and state economic development officials are working on a financial incentives package that would focus on education assistance and training of newly hired employees.
