Furniture Manufacturer Adding Jobs in Mississippi
Area Development Online News Desk (02/27/2009)
United Chair, a division of furniture manufacturer Haworth, will add 125 new jobs at its facility in Bruce, Mississippi, according to the Mississippi governor's office. The new jobs, which will pay approximately $13.44 per hour, come about as part of a company directive toward lean manufacturing and the closure of a plant in Michigan, where the company is headquartered. "This is a strong commitment by Haworth to weather tough economic times," says Kevin Bailey, head of the company's North American operations, quoted by the Associated Press (AP). The AP reports that United Chair has been offered approximately $800,000 in financial incentives from state and local agencies, much of it to cover moving expenses and infrastructure improvements.
