Sony Suspends Production at Seven Japan Facilities Due to Earthquake

03/16/2011
Sony has suspended production at seven manufacturing facilities that produce everything from Blu-ray discs to lithium ion batteries due to the recent earthquake. While these locations sustained moderate damage, the company has ceased production at its Sendai Technology Center, in proximity to the quake's epicenter, due to damages.

Some of the other closed facilities produce CDs, DVDs, semiconductor lasers, optical devices, magnetic tapes, and surface mounting equipment.

Some sites are voluntarily closed due to widespread power outages. Sony is currently evaluating the effect of the combined disasters on its business.
