Health Insurer Investing $35 Million to Relocate Within Connecticut
Area Development Online News Desk (03/30/2009)
Health insurance company UnitedHealth Group will relocate its offices in Hartford, Connecticut, to another location in the city and retain 2,000 jobs, according to the Connecticut governor's office. The Hartford Courant reports that the company will invest $35 million to renovate its new facilities at the City Place I office tower; its lease in its current offices expires next year. "Our decision to remain in Hartford reinforces the company's ongoing commitment to the region as both an employer and a community partner," says Mike Matteo, chief executive of UnitedHealth's national accounts business, quoted in the Courant. "Hartford has long been home to leading healthcare and financial service companies." The governor's office says it expects between 150 and 200 construction jobs as a result of the move, and that the company will receive $1.5 million from the state toward infrastructure improvements and energy efficiency projects in exchange for an agreement to retain 2,000 employees in Hartford for at least three years.
