Siemens Building Ontario Wind Turbine Facility, 300 Jobs Slated

08/11/2010
Siemens is building a wind turbine blade facility in Ontario to accommodate demand from a new agreement to produce turbines for Samsung C&T and Pattern Energy. The agreement, forged under the province's Green Energy Act and Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program, will produce enough clean energy to power more than 240,000 homes annually.

The project, slated for southern Ontario, will create up to 300 green jobs. Samsung has pledged to create 2,000 megawatts of wind power over the coming six years.

Siemens has already installed 130 2.3-megawatt turbines at Kruger Energy's Port Alma wind farm and TransAlta's Wolfe Island wind farm in Ontario. By the end of 2011, Siemens will have installed 550 megawatts of turbines as part of new projects.
