Joint Venture to Manufacture Nuclear Power Plant Equipment in Minnesota

09/16/2009
PaR Nuclear, Inc., a subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Company, and Hutchinson Manufacturing (HMI) will form NuCrane, a joint venture company  that will manufacture specialty equipment used in nuclear power plants. A Westinghouse company statement says the partnership will create 50 new jobs at a new facility to be constructed at HMI's site in Hutchinson, Minnesota; the new company will fabricate, assemble, and test specialty cranes that will be used in the nuclear plants. "This partnership will provide Westinghouse the opportunity to manufacture cranes and specialty hoists in support of its AP1000 nuclear plant construction worldwide," says Bill Burns, PaR Nuclear president. "The joint venture will also provide the capabilities to deliver modification and replacements for the current nuclear fleet. We are pleased to join with Hutchinson Manufacturing in our home state and look forward to working with a company that has more than 50 years of experience in heavy fabrication and machining." No financial details about the deal were released.
