Greening the Energy Crisis
Location California: Taking Charge of Energy, Manufacturing, Higher Education, and Entrepreneurship
I am delighted to extend my greetings to the readers of Area Development magazine.
California has a proud tradition of doing business with the world, with cutting-edge innovations, diverse industries and the most talented work force you will find anywhere. We lead the nation with annual totals of more than $50 billion in technology exports, $32 billion in agricultural production, and $3.2 billion in venture capital investment. We have more than 266,000 college graduates per year, nearly 1 million high-tech workers, 11 cargo airports, and 11 cargo seaports.
Those are amazing numbers, but if you are anything like me, you are looking to the future — and how you can achieve even more success for your business. I am proud to say that California offers many reasons for optimism.
As one of the world’s largest economies, California is equipped to nurture your business, whatever its needs may be. We have worked tirelessly to foster growth, including historic reforms of our Workers’ Compensation system that have saved our businesses billions of dollars. I have also consistently vetoed job-killer bills and worked to strengthen our state’s infrastructure to move goods and people faster and more efficiently. And because of our commitment to strengthening our economy while protecting our environment, we are creating a whole new economy based on green technology.
It is also important to remember that California attracts visitors and new residents from around the world who come here to enjoy limitless cultural, recreational and entertainment possibilities. This means more business for you and more fun and opportunities for your family and colleagues.
I appreciate your interest in putting down roots in California, and I am certain you will find many more fantastic reasons to do so as you look through this issue’s pages.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger
