A new joint venture in Ontario's clean energy industry will create up to 300 manufacturing jobs, while delivering more than 200MW of new solar generation - enough to power more than 25,000 homes, according to government sources.

Celestica Inc. and Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Sharp Corp., have partnered to manufacture solar components at the Celestica facility in Toronto. These components will be used in new solar projects they will be building in the province.

"Celestica is pleased to deliver innovative supply chain solutions to the solar market to meet the demand for new energy-generation alternatives and enable a strong solar industry in Ontario," said Mike Andrade, senior vice-president, Americas, Celestica. "The economic policy leadership in Ontario makes it an attractive market for renewable energy investment, and is a foundation for this agreement between Recurrent Energy and Celestica," added Sheldon Kimber, senior vice-president of Development, Recurrent Energy.

According to the provincial government, Ontario has attracted more than $16 billion in private-sector investments in the clean energy sector, and more than 20 companies have announced plans to set up or expand operations in Ontario.
