The Apollo Alliance, a coalition of labor, business, environmental, and community leaders working for an American economy focused on clean energy, says a comprehensive, national energy policy and infrastructure investments could ultimately create 3.7 million new jobs. The alliance proposes ways to make their goals a reality in its Transportation Manufacturing Action Plan (TMAP).

Based on task force findings, TMAP examines options to expand domestic production of advanced transit systems, cars, and clean trucks. The association recommends $40 billion in annual investments, which they say can rev up the economy and double public transportation ridership in the next 20 years.

Of the jobs the alliance says could potentially be created, 600,000 would be in manufacturing. Workers would be needed to produce the buses, rail cars, and component parts that the proposal entails.
