Area Development
Up to 1,400 new jobs are in the works for Georgia, as two companies prepare to expand in the state. Meggitt Defense Systems, an international producer of live and virtual training and defense systems for militaries and security agencies, will relocate and expand its facilities to Suwanee, Georgia. The company has already broken ground on a new 200,000-square-foot building, part of a $80 million investment that is expected to create 400 jobs. In the Atlanta metro area, Wipro Technologies, an international IT services company headquartered in Bangalore, India, will open a software development center at a location to be determined. Wipro officials chose the Atlanta area in part due to its proximity to key universities. The Georgia governor's office reports that the company will partner with the University of Georgia system to train and educate up to 500 employees. Wipro plans to hire up to 1,000 new workers by its third year of operation.
