SCD Probiotics invested $9.1 million to expand its manufacturing facility near downtown Kansas City, Missouri, creating 62 new jobs.

The company said the latest expansion of its manufacturing facility will quintuple production capabilities, while laboratory operations will double. New equipment, including the addition of fermentation tanks with 76,000 liters of additional capacity and a state-of-the art bottling line purchased earlier this year, will be instrumental in improving operational efficiencies.

The building renovation, production equipment and lab expansion were financed with help from the Missouri Technology Corporation, Missouri Development Tax Credits, private investors and UMB Bank. “As an entrepreneur and business leader, I am grateful for the support of our investors, UMB, Governor Jay Nixon and the state of Missouri,” says Matt Wood, CEO of SCD Probiotics. “The financial assistance provided to us over the past several years has helped SCD increase production capacity, hire and train new people, and invest in our community.”

A new lease for additional warehouse space was also finalized in August, bringing storage and fulfillment functions to the downtown Kansas City area. Its 12,000 square feet of space, at 1951 E. 18th Street, conveniently located near the manufacturing facility, further improves operational efficiencies. SCD Probiotics currently employs 30 people, with employment expected to grow by about 20 percent as operations ramp up in the coming months, the company said.

"The expansion by SCD Probiotics is a plus for Missouri's advanced-manufacturing sector, a big boost to our already strong animal health corridor, and a win for downtown Kansas City," Gov. Jay Nixon said. "This state-of-the-art facility represents a major investment by a cutting-edge company that has already begun creating good jobs for Missourians. I am pleased that my administration could help SCD Probiotics move forward with its expansion plans through a package of strategic economic incentives, and I look forward to watching this strong Missouri company grow for years to come."

As an incentive to assist SCD Probiotics with its expansion, the state of Missouri authorized an incentive package that included resources from the Enhanced Enterprise Zone, Customized Training, Recruitment Assistance and Development Tax Credit programs, and the Missouri Technology Corporation.
