Georgia-Pacific will close its corrugated box manufacturing plant in Memphis, Tennessee in the beginning of 2011, the Memphis Business Journal reports. Ninety-seven employees will be laid off beginning on January 31. The closure will be completed by mid-February.

The company purchased the 233,000-square-foot facility, which produces paper and corrugated boxes for shipping, in 1990 when it purchased the Greater Northern Nekoosa Corp.

Another Memphis facility that conducts plastic shipping container washing and has 50 employees will stay open.
