Fabri-Kal, a provider of plastic foodservice and custom thermoformed packaging solutions, has announced plans to open a new design and manufacturing facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The company will purchase and renovate an existing 400,000-square-foot plant on a former brownfield site in the city that will add 50 new jobs. Additionally, Fabri-Kal will relocate its technical center, XP Division, and warehouse space from their current facilities in Kalamazoo to the new facility. "The facility's location in Kalamazoo gives Fabri-Kal a Midwest manufacturing presence and enables us to take advantage of the manufacturing and tooling expertise that exists in the state," says Mike Roeder, the company's president. The new facility is expected to open in the third quarter of this year, with total upgrades taking up to five years. The facility will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified upon completion.
