Johnson Controls is investing $60 million to build a 400,000-square-foot production and distribution center for lead acid batteries in Middletown, Delaware. The company will also create 67 jobs by June 2012, bringing its total in-state work force to more than 280 employees.

"Johnson Controls' decision to put more Delawareans to work reflects our growing reputation as a great place to build a business," said Governor Jack Markell. "We're proud that these products serving the region will be produced and distributed right here in Delaware."

The Delaware Economic Development Office has extended $2.06 million from the Delaware Strategic Fund towards construction and new equipment. Johnson Controls will receive an additional $384,968 performance-based grant for job creation and retention. The company is also eligible for up to $100,000 in company-match work force training grants through the Blue Collar Training Fund program.
