Discount retailer Dollar General has selected Bessemer, Alabama, for the site of its tenth distribution center. The company will invest $60 million in the facility, which will ultimately create more than 650 jobs.

"We are proud to build this state-of-the-art facility in Bessemer," said John Flanigan, executive vice president of global supply chain for the company. "Dollar General stores have been a part of the Birmingham community for four decades. The new facility is an investment in the continued growth of the community, and the location is a great strategic fit for our company's expansion plans."

The company expects to break ground in May and open the facility in February 2012. It will serve 500 retail stores in Alabama and other states. Dollar General currently operates 498 stores in Alabama.
