Alpina Foods is investing $15 million and creating 50 jobs in Batavia, New York. The dairy company, which leads in Colombia and South America, will open its first U.S. specialty yogurt manufacturing plant.

"We chose the park because of the skilled work force, proximity to milk supply, ability to reach our target markets, and the long-standing tradition of dairy and agriculture within Western New York," said Alpina CEO Julian Jaramillo. "It is an optimal location for our first United States specialty yogurt manufacturing facility."

Growing demand for the company's yogurts, desserts, and beverages prompted the investment. Alpina will build and equip a 28,000-square-foot facility in the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park.

Alpina is eligible for Empire State Development Corporation Excelsior Jobs Program benefits and incentives from the Office of Community Renewal and the Department of Labor. National Grid and National Fuel will help fund infrastructure extensions to the new facility. And the Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) and town of Batavia will provide local incentives.

The company also has industrial facilities in Venezuela and Ecuador.
