Federal-Mogul Corporation, a manufacturer of automotive equipment, will build a new manufacturing facility in Chennai, India, expanding its presence in the country to seven operations. At full buildout, the facility will total 15,000 square meters (approximately 49,202 square feet) and employ 500 workers. The Michigan-based company expects to begin production of light vehicle brake and friction components, and commercial vehicle and railway friction components by September 2009. "This new greenfield facility is another example of Federal-Mogul's commitment to grow its manufacturing footprint in India," says Jose Maria Alapont, Federal-Mogul's president and CEO. "Products manufactured at the new facility will be for both local vehicle manufacturers and for export to the global automotive market."
