The former General Motors (GM) automotive brand Hummer plans to invest $9.4 million to locate a new headquarters facility in Michigan, according to the Detroit Free Press. As part of its restructuring plan, GM is currently working to complete the sale of Hummer to the China-based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company. The Free Press reports that the facility would be located in either Detroit or Auburn Hills, Michigan, and that a final decision is expected by October 31. The headquarters would house design, engineering, finance, purchasing, sales, service, and marketing staff and is expected to create 300 direct jobs and approximately 640 indirect jobs. The state has approved $20.6 million in state tax credits for the project, contingent on the closing of the Hummer sale to Sichuan Tengzhong; officials in both potential location cities say they will provide property tax abatement. Hummer officials were also considering sites in Tennessee and South Carolina.
