Schaeffler Group USA, a company that develops and manufactures precision products for machines, equipment and vehicles as well as in aviation and aerospace applications, will create an estimated 440 jobs and invest $163.8 million to expand manufacturing centers in the counties of Chesterfield, Spartanburg and York, South Carolina.

The firm’s Palmetto State operations focus on the manufacturing of bearings, bearing components, automotive components, motor elements, UniAir components, hydraulic lash adjusters, tappets, chains and precision and linear products.

“Schaeffler is pleased to expand our production in Fort Mill, which solidifies our overall commitment to the State of South Carolina, City of Fort Mill and York County. This new production space and machinery will expand based on the skills of our manufacturing team but also require additional education for new state of the art technologies,” said Schaeffler Americas CEO Bruce Warmbold.

The expansion of Schaeffler’s Chesterfield and York County operations will include adding to its existing facilities as well as the purchase of new, upgraded equipment. Its investment in the company’s Spartanburg County plant will include the addition of new equipment. All expansions are expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the Chesterfield and York County projects.

Germany-based Schaeffler Group USA’s Corporate Offices are located in York County, where the company also operates two production plants, both of which are located at 308 Springhill Farm Road in Fort Mill. In addition, the company currently operates three plants in Chesterfield County, one of which is located at 170 Calvary Lane in Cheraw, South Carolina. The company’s other two Chesterfield County plants are located on the same site at 301 Highway 1 South in Cheraw, South Carolina.
