Barr Laboratories, Inc., a subsidiary of Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc., will invest $62 million to expand its facility in Forest, Virginia. The expansion is expected to create 220 new jobs at the plant, which is already the largest single employer in Bedford County with more than 500 employees. "We plan to add production and packing capacity that will allow us to effectively compete in the global pharmaceutical marketplace," says Bruce L. Downey, the company's chair and CEO. The expansion is expected to take place over the next six years. According to the Virginia governor's office, the company received more than $1.5 million in state and local financial incentives, and the state will provide training assistance for new employees.
