Pet Supplies Plus (PSP) has announced plans to relocate its warehousing operations from southeastern Michigan to Seymour, Indiana; a move expected to create up to 135 jobs by 2016.

Founded in 1988, the company is the third-largest pet specialty retailer in America, operating 258 stores in 22 states. Currently about 200 Hoosiers work at nearly a dozen PSP stores sprinkled throughout Indiana.

PSP plans to lease and equip a 763,000-sq.-ft. facility in Seymour and begin shipping to customers from there in August. The project will more than double the firm's capacity to support its existing and future retail store customer-base.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered PSP up to $850,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on its job creation plans. The City of Seymour approved additional property tax abatement.

"This investment supports our customers who can expect substantial service improvements, a broader range of products and the highest level of availability in the industry," said Todd Pankey, PSP senior vice president of supply chain.
