Cummins Inc., a manufacturer of diesel service engines and related technologies, will expand its operations in Columbus, Indiana, and add approximately 500 new professional positions, many of them in engineering, over the next two years. Cummins' new facility - a four-story, 100,000-square-foot building scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2009 - will be located two blocks away from the company's headquarters in building that is part of the city's Vision 2020 plan for redevelopment. "As a large and growing employer in the city, we have a significant stake in helping Columbus remain a vibrant community," says Joe Loughrey, Cummins' president and CEO. Cummins already employs 5,500 people in Columbus. The company requested and received a $1 million grant from the state to the City of Columbus to assist with infrastructure improvements associated with the project.
