Area Development
NBC Sports Group will consolidate its Philadelphia and New York operations by establishing new headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, Gov. Dannel Malloy has announced. The project, which begins September 2012, is expected to bring 450 jobs to the area.

NBC will invest $100 million to convert former warehouse and factory space into state-of-the-art digital studios. (One of its co-tenants will be the National Hockey League's cable network.)

The new location will be the home of NBC Sports, NBC Olympics, NBC Sports Digital, the Comcast Sports Management Group and VERSUS. Future plans call for the construction of a new studio for the NHL Network; activity expected to create even more jobs.

Chairman Mark Lazarus of NBC Sports Group said the project is about "bringing people together to maximize production, creativity and efficient teamwork." The 32-acre location being created will allow NBC to "build numerous state-of-the-art studios, house over 450 employees, and prepare for anticipated growth."

The state of Connecticut is providing NBC with a $20 million loan which will not have to be repaid if job goals are met, and available tax credits.
