Square, a mobile payment company, is opening larger headquarters in San Francisco, California and expanding its presence in New York City, New York  and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

The company began with a free credit card reader for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, allowing businesses to accept credit cards anywhere and anytime. Square now offers a full line of hardware and software tools including; Square Register, Square Market, Square Wallet, and Square Stand.

Square moved into its new corporate headquarters at 1455 Market Street in the Central Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California. To accommodate its rapid growth, Square’s new San Francisco headquarters is more than 150,000 square feet, three times the size of the company’s previous space in the San Francisco Chronicle building.

“Our mission to make commerce easy comes with ambitious technical challenges,” said Bryan Power, Director of Talent at Square. “Our new headquarters allows us to rapidly scale, while preserving our values of collaboration and transparency. The design of the space reinforces our commitment to small teams, as well as designers and engineers working alongside one another.”

The firm also signed a lease for additional office space in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City and next year Square will open an office in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. In New York, Square plans to triple its engineering presence within one year. The Kitchener-Waterloo facility will house Square’s first permanent office in Canada. Square also has offices in Atlanta and Tokyo.

The number of worldwide Square employees has doubled year over year, growing from approximately 300 employees in 2012 to more than 600 employees today, the company said.
