An Austrian-based plastic packaging company, Alpla, opened its new $22.4 million manufacturing campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky, creating 72 full-time jobs in the Commonwealth.

Alpla produces customized plastic packaging solutions to meet the needs of customers. First established in Austria in 1955, Alpla has grown into a global company with approximately 13,000 employees at 148 sites in 39 countries. With a diverse range of customers, Alpla products include packaging for everyday items such as beverages, motor oils and cleaning supplies.

Gov. Steve Beshear said, “like other global companies, Alpla has recognized Kentucky’s central location, access to transportation options, and its ready, qualified workforce as a perfect fit for growing its international presence. The Commonwealth played a key role in making this sizable investment possible, and we appreciate the dozens of new jobs Alpla will bring to south central Kentucky.”

“Each year we’ve seen Bowling Green and Warren County grow into an important economic hub for our region and for all of Kentucky because of the high quality location and workforce we offer,” said Rep. Jim DeCesare.

“The collaboration among organizations and leaders in this community allows us to continue to attract international powerhouses such as Alpla,” said Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson. “But it’s a testament to the passion of the community itself when a new company is able to get their production under way in just six months..”

Warren County has been certified by the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board as a Work Ready Certified Community. The certification is an assurance to business and industry that the community is committed to providing the highly skilled workforce required in today’s competitive global economy.
