Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc., plans to invest $40 million on its Wisconsin operations and hire up to 60 persons to fill positions at its Madison corporate headquarters.

The consumer products giant manufactures Rayovac batteries, Remington shavers, Repel bug repellent, Toastmaster and George Foreman small appliances as well as many other name-brand products for U.S. and global markets.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation will give the company a $4 million award if it retains its existing 470 jobs in the Madison area and spends at least $40 million on capital investments.

"Since our origins, more than 100 years ago, as a battery manufacturer on Madison's east side, our company has played a significant role as a major employer in Dane County and other parts of Wisconsin," said Spectrum's CEO Dave Lumley. "We appreciate this award. as we have made a commitment to retain our headquarters and operations in Wisconsin and invest in our future in the state."
