Area Development
Baril Coatings USA, an industrial coatings manufacturer, plans to expand its operations in Angola, Indiana, creating up to 16 new jobs by 2017.

The company, which is a joint venture with Netherlands-based Baril Coatings BV, will invest $1 million to construct and equip a 4,000 square-foot finished goods warehouse adjacent to its 17,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Angola. With plans to be fully operational by January, the new warehouse will improve process flow and increase production capacity, allowing the company to double sales of its patented dual cure coating technology within the next two to three years.

“We have decided to remain in Angola for several reasons,” said Michael Williams, Director of Operations at Baril Coatings. “The city, county and state have been very aggressive insuring a proactive and welcoming business climate. The area also offers a strategic business location combined with excellent educational and recreational opportunities and a top notch workforce. Angola has been our home for almost four decades and we look forward to our continuing success here in Northeast Indiana.” Baril Coatings, which currently employs 19 full-time Indiana associates, plans to begin hiring for production and administrative positions in December.

Founded as Freda, Inc. in 1976, Baril Coatings provides protective coatings for original equipment manufacturers, primarily in the maintenance, architectural, automotive, agricultural, transportation and marine markets. Indiana is Baril Coating’s only U.S. location, with 12 additional facilities in Europe.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Baril Coatings USA, LLC up to $75,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $25,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Angola approved additional incentives at the request of the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation.

“When international companies consider where to grow, Indiana is competing and winning time and time again for their jobs and investment,” said Victor Smith, Indiana Secretary of Commerce. “Baril Coatings’ new coating technology fits in perfectly here, with a Hoosier workforce known for its skill in manufacturing and knack for innovation. As a state that works for business, we welcome Baril Coatings’ new jobs to Indiana.”
