Metal products manufacturer and fabricator Commercial Metals Company will establish a micro mill in Berkeley County, West Virginia. The $450 million project is expected to create roughly 230 jobs.

The new facility in the Eastern Panhandle will have the capacity to produce 500,000 tons of straight-length rebar and a premium spooled rebar. Spooled rebar boasts less waste, increased productivity and improved safety. Operations are scheduled for late 2025.

"We would like to thank Governor Jim Justice, the entire West Virginia economic development team, and Berkeley County staff for the support provided during CMC's site selection process and for the welcome given to this important project," Barbara R. Smith, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of CMC said. "We look forward to becoming a vital part of the Berkeley County community and growing our presence in the Mountain State."

Commercial Metals Company is a steel and metal manufacturer based in Irving, Texas. In the U.S., the company owns 41 scrap metal recycling facilities with a total annual capacity of 4.9 million tons, six electric arc furnace mini mills and two electric arc furnace micro mills and two re-rolling mills with a total annual capacity of 5.4 million tons, and steel fabrication facilities with a total annual capacity of 2.4 million tons. CMC turns scrap into new, sustainable steel products by recycling more than 19 billion pounds of metal each year.

“CMC will be a tremendous asset to West Virginia and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Mountain State,” West Virginia Secretary of Economic Development Mitch Carmichael noted. “There’s no doubt that West Virginia is the best place for this micro mill.”
