Cooper Power Systems is investing $8.5 million to expand its transformer production plant in Nacogdoches, Texas, and will create 44 jobs. The company is relocating production of its single-phase pad-mounted transformers from a facility in Lumberton, Mississippi.

The company considered expanding at several of its other locations in the United States and Latin America. Cooper is engaged in an effort to improve its global competitiveness, projected for completion by the third quarter of 2011.

Cooper, which was founded in 1833, produces electrical goods for the global market.
