Generac Power Systems Inc., a leading manufacturer of backup power generation equipment, has announced it will invest up to $6 million to expand/remodel its Waukesha, WI, headquarters and up to $4 million more to create a technical center. The project is expected to be done by year-end 2013.

The company also said it plans to add over 200 jobs within the next three years at the HQ location. Currently more than 550 people work there.

CEO Aaron Jagdfeld said the HQ expansion "isn't just a major investment in our community.it's a major step in meeting the power generation and equipment demands of our customers." When finished, the new space will allow Generac's engineers and technicians "to innovate and develop tomorrow's technology for our industry," he explained.

Looking beyond 2013, Generac already has purchased land adjacent to its Waukesha headquarters in preparation for future expansion. was constructed in 1967 and has been expanded nine times during its history.

Presently the company employs more than 2,300 people across five locations, including the recently acquired Magnum Power Products in Berlin, Wisconsin, and Gen-Tran Corporation in Alpharetta, Georgia.
