Hyundai Motor Company has opened its second manufacturing facility in India, near the city of Chennai, enabling the company to double its annual production in that country to 600,000 vehicles. The new plant makes India the company's largest foreign manufacturing site, surpassing the United States. Hyundai invested more than US$1 billion in the facility, which will produce the i10 hatchback for markets in India, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. The expansion is expected to create more than 20,000 new jobs. The facility has been in limited production mode for nearly one year.
