Area Development
The IMO Group announced yesterday that it plans to open its first American manufacturing facility in Dorchester County, South Carolina by July.  The project will result in a $47 million capital investment and employ 190 workers.

IMO, which has headquarters in Germany, manufactures slewing rings and slew drives, which are used in wind turbines, construction machinery, mining, medical technology and ship building.  Its South Carolina location will be called IMO USA Corp.

Company executives were drawn to the area because of the 40,000 square foot facility and strategic proximity.

"Charleston's strong port coupled with its strengthening profile in alternative energy gave us complete confidence in our decision to come here," said Rudiger Unverzagt, CEO of IMO USA Corp.
