Amazon, a global leader in e-commerce, plans to hire 500 additional full-time employees at the company’s fulfillment center in Lexington County, South Carolina.

Since opening in 2012, the Amazon fulfillment center in West Columbia, South Carolina, has brought more than 1,500 full-time jobs to Lexington County. Amazon is adding the new positions to meet growing customer demand. Employees will pick, pack and ship customer orders.

“For a company like Amazon to make the decision to expand its operations in South Carolina, it is a special source of pride and a reason to celebrate because it proves what we already know – that we have a world class workforce and competitive business environment. The 500 new jobs this expansion will create is terrific news for the Midlands community, and we look forward to watching Amazon continue to grow here for many years to come,” said Governor Nikki Haley.

“Having such a recognized company make repeat expansions in our state is a credit to South Carolina’s positive business climate and workforce. Congratulations to Amazon for expanding their Lexington County operations and creating 500 new jobs in the Midlands,” Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.

“In December 2010, we were thrilled to welcome Amazon.com to Lexington County and to have this caliber of company locate here. Today’s announcement of 500 additional jobs at the facility absolutely affirms the quality of our workforce,” added Lexington County Council Chairman Johnny Jeffcoat.
