New Jersey is no stranger to companies building data center operations but its popularity is growing with more wholesale data center space popping up across its central region.
According to an article at Data Center Knowledge, the state is one of the most active data center operation sites nationwide and has long been home to collocation facilities and single tenant data plants for companies doing business across the Hudson River in NY.
The latest trend to hit the state's commercial building space is an increase in wholesale data operations. A tenant leases dedicated space instead of shard collocation space and it's generally quicker and cheaper than building a data center operations from scratch, according to the article. Its especially alluring to companies who need at least 1 megawatt of power capacity.
Already in the works are two building for data hosting providers and other efforts by data center builders. The article points out DuPont Fabros Technologies (DFT) is building the first phase of a major data center in Piscataway that will eventually offer 380,000 square feet of wholesale space.
The article notes that Sentinel Data Centers and Russo Development are building a large multi-tenant wholesale data center facility. More companies are looking for wholesale data space for efficiency, lower costs and quicker access as providers such as Digital Realty can provide space in just months while new construction of a facility can take two years.
