Caterpillar announced yesterday that it will expand its Newberry County, South Carolina facility to increase production of diesel- and gas-powered generator sets. The expansion is expected to be completed within the next several years, and will create 500 new jobs.

"The expansion of our Newberry operation is part of the Electric Power Division's strategic global manufacturing plan for better serving our customers," said Joseph Mulay, Newberry facility manager for Caterpillar. "South Carolina has been an excellent fit for our company, and we are pleased to be increasing operations at our Newberry facility."

Caterpillar's Electric Power Division produces diesel generator sets for the North American market, which are used as back-up power for small retail businesses, homes, and farms.
