BAE Systems, a developer of defense, security and aerospace systems,
will add approximately 200 full-time positions at its operation in Fort
Wayne, Indiana, according to the Indiana governor's office. "The type
of work moving to Fort Wayne will involve avionics on the Boeing 737
and 777 airplane programs," says company spokesperson Lisa Albiston,
quoted in the Fort Wayne Daily News. "Our Fort Wayne facility
manufactures flight controls, engine controls, and cables for both
commercial and military avionics, and supports aftermarket repairs and
spare equipment for customers." The jobs are being transfered to
Indiana from a facility in Texas that will be closed. The governor's
office says BAE Systems will begin hiring engineers and production
operations employees in late March and will continue to hire over the
next two years. The company has been offered up to $2.3 million in
performance-based tax credits and up to $242,500 in training grants,
contingent on job creation; the city will also provide property tax
abatement.
