Topre, a Japan-based auto parts manufacturer, will invest $60 million to build a 150,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Springfield, Ohio.

The company will take over a 30-acre, 4-year old, industrial business park closed by International Harvester in 2002. Topre initially sought to create a smaller $10 million, 20,000 square foot, manufacturing plant on the site but decided to expand its project.

According to city officials Springfield upgraded infrastructure and took several years to clean the former International Harvester site of industrial waste and contaminants. The plant is initially expected to create 85 jobs, with the possibility of hiring more associates in future years.

The plant, which is expected to be operational next summer, will make parts for the Toyota Rav4 and other manufacturers.
