TRUMPF Medical Systems Inc., a manufacturer of medical equipment for healthcare facilities, will invest $5.58 million to expand its operations in Charleston, South Carolina, according to state commerce officials. The project is expected to create 29 new jobs, more than doubling its current work force of 18. The company, a division of Germany-based TRUMPF Group, will relocate its existing corporate headquarters, manufacturing operation, and product showroom to 27,000-square-foot build-to-suit facility that is expandable to 49,000 square feet in anticipation of future growth. The building is scheduled to be completed this fall. "Based on our experience here, we ultimately decided that Charleston offered the best overall environment to support our long-term success," says TRUMPF Medical Systems President and CEO Andy Reding, who says a surge in new contracts prompted the decision to expand to a larger facility. State officials did not release information regarding financial incentives offered to the company.
