Area Development
A leading Chinese wind turbine manufacturer has selected Dallas for its first American production facility, the Dallas Morning News reports. Guangdong Ming Yang Wind Power Industry Group will locate four employees in Dallas to discuss plans to build wind turbines in the area. Wang Song, the company's managing director, told the News that its facilities in China employ between 200 and 400 workers.

"We did our homework," Song said. "We knew that Texas makes the biggest use of wind power in the U.S. and that Dallas was the biggest city near the wind corridor."

The Dallas location will be the company's first site outside China. It currently employs 2,000 people and is China's largest privately-held turbine producer. Dallas City Council member Ron Natinsky signed a memorandum of understanding with the company that outlines the agreement.

Texas is a top producer of wind power in the United States, and is growing its wind production with a Competitive Renewable Energy Zone program. That project aims to bring wind energy from West Texas to densely-populated portions of the state.
