Area Development
Amazon.com, Inc. announced plans today to expand its fulfillment center in Phoenix, Arizona, by adding about 400,000 sq. ft. by September 2011. When the work is completed, the facility will be over 1 million square feet in size, making it one of the biggest Amazon fulfillment centers in North America.

Amazon operates two other fulfillment centers in the Phoenix metro area; bringing its total footprint in the state to over 3 million square feet. Over the past four years the company has invested tens of millions of dollars and created hundreds of jobs at the three Phoenix facilities.

"We are committed to growth in Arizona because Governor Brewer and other state officials have demonstrated their commitment to Amazon jobs and investment," said Paul Misener, vice-president, Amazon Global Public Policy. In the past two weeks, Amazon fulfillment centers in six states announced hiring plans for full-time jobs, and also announced plans for new fulfillment centers in Washington State and Indiana.
